so, i got death (star) glares from many women in the tea party teacher crowd today - guys dont engage eyes (ball-less, many)...much. I got up to ask why all teachers arent teaching about conservative and liberal views and allowing our students to critically think for themselves...continued to address the speakers use of the word progressive like it was a dirty word (like liberal), and then outed myself as a liberal and proud of it. Telling how i have both the NYTIMES and WSJ for my students to see differences in article coverage/reporting. Why would it be a struggle for teachers to illustrate how programs help poor/disadvantaged...if they teach why programs were started and problems/solutions government can address. I just hated his slamming of FDR and the economic Bill of Rights he spoke of- why shouldnt people expect to have good jobs, homes, and lives in America? Its not redistribution of wealth, its access to opportunity - which alluded to civil rights and womens suffrage for most of us...ok, 50% of us. Then teachers asking how to explain the GOD-given rights we are born with... SHIT< do these teachers not understand the reformation, the Enlightenment and Age of Reason that was created away from the YOKE of Catholicism? Natural rights, inherent rights, are about our OWN empowerment, not (only) from GOD, BUT away from the damn MONARCHIES and feudalistic roles people suffered under, for so many centuries. The underlying CHRISTIAN tone was there mixed in with the repugnant view of America and its entitlements that have taken over (sic) the country. oy vey! I was amazed that ignorance in the teaching profession is prevalent and alive- and THAT my friends, is indoctrinating YOUR CHILDREN. i was squirming and HAD TO SPEAK up. then i found 2 other like souls in the parking lot- and 2 more came up to shake our hands for speaking up in the craziness in which we were surrounded. the rest i am pretty sure, wished for us to burn in hell.
