this holiday season, I recommend reading about Jesus through a revolutionary standpoint. dont ignore his fury and sense of justice in favor of only seeing his love and gentleness. he came to be not only a lamb, but a lion. keep in mind that Jesus was a minority born under oppressive roman rule and did not hesitate to speak out against those who denied rights to the small. Jesus taught resistance and perseverance to the people who were persecuted. his love was not passive; rather, it is divine and piercing and refused to partake in injustice. with that in mind, please take a moment to pray for those here in America who regularly lose their lives because of prejudice and hate. pray for black children who are forced to grow up too fast. pray for trans people who are seen as an open target for ridicule and murder. pray for disabled people who are seen as burdens and neglected. pray for gay people who have no family to go to. and please, pray for the families of all those who were taken by police; that though there is an empty seat this Christmas, they will know that we mourn alongside them. let their hearts be lightened and, though their grief should not be cast away, let it be turned into passion to work against the cruelty inflicted upon them, and let they make it so other families do not have to share in that suffering. this Christmas, love as christ loved; wholly, righteously, and divinely, without regard for oppression.
