1. Our newest Old Fashioned features three of the flavors that scholars say might be the fabled Forbidden Fruit: apple, pomegranate, and quince. Since Im not one to argue with individual Bible Scholars, Ive tried to include them all. The quince jelly has a delicious baby-foodlike quality that surprised me, and dissolved perfectly into apple whiskey. Baby food + The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil? Now thats living! 2. We have Cynar! Italians rejoice! A full bodied digestif with a vegetal quality-- one of its main ingredients is artichoke. If you like Fernet or Averna, you should give it a try. And if your overprotective Italian or Nonitalian mother asks if youve had any vegetables today, you can say, Artichokes, mother, artichokes! 3. Our newest beer simple syrup-- for our Boilermaker Old Fashioned-- is made from Hoegaarden & Stiegl. Hoegaardens a terrific light wheat beer flavored with coriander and orange peel, and Stiegl is the beer that Mozart drank. Mozart, people! Hes like the Miles Davis of the 18th century!
