107 years ago today, a group of ladies ignited the flame to illuminate the way. They were a generation removed from slavery going up against a myriad of social adversities. And still in the sight of hardship sought stronger womanhood, the highest scholarship, and service to their community. On January 15th they founded an organization to bond them as one and on that day in 1908 a legacy of work begun. As women caught sight of the special light these women reflected they too felt the call to service and sisterhood and desired to get connected. Before they knew it, an organization founded in D.C. expanded globally, with woman all around the world joining and holding up the purpose so notably. 107 years later we hold the flame that ignites the way. To all of our sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Happy Founders Day!
