27/07/13. 2314: Launch ILB At 23:14 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report that a person had been recovered from the water at the visitor’s pontoon just above where the Truro River and Fal River meet. The person was reported to be requiring medical attention and an ambulance was tasked to proceed to Malpas where the casualty could be landed. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 23:20 and arrived on scene at the pontoon at 23:34. The casualty was assessed by the volunteer lifeboat crew who are trained in casualty care and was placed on Oxygen before being transferred to the inshore lifeboat. The casualty was then taken up river to the pontoons at Malpas where the ambulance paramedic was waiting and once assessed he was taken to Treliske Hospital for further treatment. The inshore lifeboat was released at 00:20 to return to its station so headed back down the river. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 00:42 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 00:55. The casualty had been walking on the pontoon island when he had slipped and fallen into the water. His wife and other members of the public helped to recover him from the water and wrapped him in blankets before requesting further assistance. The casualty was suffering from shock and the cold but undoubtedly the quick thinking and actions of the people on the pontoon prevented this from being a much more serious incident.
