29 years ago my dad took me down for my first ever game for Canning Corinthians at Apsley reserve. Im proud to say Ive never missed a season since that day. I am thankful to God for keeping me relatively injury free, for the many unbreakable friendships I have made, for the highs and heartbreaks I have known, and for the dedication of my wife, daughters, mum and dad who have always understood how this game has had such a powerful hold on me. This Saturday I play my last ever game ending where it all started. More importantly the club farewells Paul and Michael Van Dongen, the two greatest ever Canning City players who turned the club around from nearly folding 4 years ago to almost winning a championship last year. This year was disappointing for us. We will finish 5th and we had ambitions much higher than that. But we have managed to salvage some respect over the last 4 weeks going unbeaten in 4 - 3 against top 4 sides. We also say farewell to other club Champions Emlyn Whetnall, Duncan Hind , Simon Versaico and Daniel The Genius Niederberger, last years gold medal winner. Our opposition Shamrock Rovers need to beat us to win the league so its guaranteed to be an emotional and hotly contested affair. If you have time on Saturday. Please come down to Willetton Sports Club, Burrendah Boulevard - at 3pm for kick off. Enjoy a few beers, farewell some of the clubs champions and get to see the huge array of young talent that we have on show that ensures Canning City Soccer Club has plenty to be excited about in the coming years. Signing out with my favourite song at the moment - It pretty much explains exactly the way I feel about this game that has been a part of my life for so long. Au re·voir - Thanks for the memories. https://youtube/watch?v=7o15LOxTGOY
