7 Christmas sessions today in our new home studio! I cant wait to be able to share the finished products. Im very, very, very thankful to have had such a wonderful assistant who completely rocked her first day on the job! Why not start with a bang? My extraordinary aid deserves more acknowledgement. This young lady also happens to be my lovely, middle school aged niece. My husband and I come from a long line of family owned and run businesses so when I knew I had to hire someone, I naturally thought inward. I was confident that though shes young, shed be able to handle following instructions and tackling simple tasks. Shes also wicked artistic, smart, and talented which are all pretty amazing qualities in an artsy position. What I didnt anticipate at her age was her eagerness to jump in without being asked, her capability to anticipate my needs or those of our clients, and her confidence to voice her opinion with creative ideas. She was so, so, so amazing with the children, going out of her way to make them feel comfortable, and laugh eliciting some adorable natural smiles. Shes also a superb bubble blower! ;) Basically, today wouldnt have happened without her, and Emma, I thank you so much. I hear you really enjoyed yourself and I hope thats true! When I was 14 my Dads friend took a chance on me giving me my first job, reluctantly. I ended up working there for years, only leaving when I moved to Richmond but even then Id travel home when they needed help. Im forever grateful to her for the life experiences, work ethic, understanding of money (making/spending responsibly), and all out appreciation for the work force that starting to work young gave me. I feel like so many of todays youth go out into the real world not understanding that you must work for things; there are no handouts and working hard pays off. I can tell by my sweet nieces actions today that my brother and sister-in-law arent instilling those poor ethics in their children, and I cant say how impressed I was at her willing and eagerness to bust her hump. Theres something to be said for a young person working so hard. Love it.
