9-29-2002 Youth Dawa Homewood, Ill Imam Warith Deen Mohammed With Allah’s name, the praise and the thanks is for G-d, we thank Him for the gift and blessing of the model human person Muhammad (pbuh), the honorable and noble servant and Messenger of G-d and what follows of that salute or that traditional salutation to the last Prophet (pbuh), the seal of the Prophets mentioned in the Bible as it is given in the Quran. Imam Warith Deen Mohammed You have to learn how to write and read the short surahs and be able to understand any word in them when you see it just like English. If you learn something in English you are expected to know every word in the paragraph, what it means, how to read and write it. So the same thing is for learning Quran. If you don’t learn it that way then you are not learning the Quran, you do not know it you are just making noise, sound. Making beautiful noise but that is all it is, just sounds. You have to understand it. Bismillaher rahmaaner raheem “Bi” is translated “With or by” maybe it might have another meaning and it has to have dash vowel “E” under it, but really you have to know when it goes with it. When you learn how to read Arabic a little better you will not need the vowels. For example you could have “Basama” which means he smile, it could be in English. In the church they say, “G-d smiles down on them,” we don’t say that. I don’t think we speak like that about G-d. Not that it is not nice sounding but we don’t use that kind of language. We don’t think of G-d as a persons, or as a human being. With the name of G-d or with G-d’s name that is how I like to translate it, “The Merciful Benefactor, The Merciful Redeemer” or the Merciful the Compassionate, the Mercy, the Mercy Giving. They have different translations and all of them are correct. You can’t say any of them are not correct. I choose with G-d’s name the Merciful Benefactor the Merciful Redeemer. La elaaha illalah Belief in one G-d Whenever you see the word Allah swt you know it means G-d, but there is another word for G-d, we say the phrase, “Laa elaaha illaalah” we use this word “Elah,” translated “There is no G-d except G-d,” but why are they different? Why is this in Arabic “Elah for G-d and this is the more common and popular name that we use for G-d? Why are they different when they translate it, “There is no G-d except G-d or no G-d but G-d?” Why do most immigrant Muslims who come here and do not say G-d? They say “There is no G-d but Allah swt.” Hardly ever will you hear them say in writing or in speaking English “There is no G-d but G-d when it means G-d?” If you ask them what does Allah swt mean” they will say G-d. but when they translate it they say there is not G-d but Allah swt.” This makes Christian people think that we have a different G-d from their’s because you say there is no G-d and in the phrase you use another word such as Allah swt. So they think we have a different G-d when it is the same G-d. How do we know it is the same G-d? We believe in the G-d Who has created everything, the G-d Who has always existed. He is Eternal. He created human beings and everything, that is the same G-d the Christians believe in, but they have some idea about G-d coming in the flesh of Jesus Christ or being sent into the world in the flesh of Jesus Christ that we don’t believe. Peace be on Christ Jesus he is only a Messenger of G-d like Muhammad pbuh a Prophet and a holy sign in Al Islam. We do believe that Jesus did not come from a man, he was created by G-d. We believe in the virgin birth like Christians do, that Jesus Christ was not born of a man. He was born only of a woman and G-d created him we say. The Quran says the likeness of Jesus Christ is as Adam and G-d created him from dust. 1. Quran 3.59; And it says when G-d wants a Messenger or servant He creates him or selects them from those who He has already created. So that says that every human being who came telling us about G-d including Jesus Christ were only human beings and they were created like Adam and Adam was created from dust. 2. Quran 39.4; When you get higher in Islamic knowledge you will understand more. Allah Has more letters than the word elah, G-d Allah Is the correct pronunciation instead of Al elah Why is Allah swt different? Why does Allah swt have more letters than “Elah which only has three letters? “Elah” has three letters alif, L and the letter “H.” Allah swt has more letters, it has the letter “L” which is doubled and another letter “L.” I has three letter “L’s.” It means “The” like some authorities say the first letter “L” means ‘The’ for The G-d.’ Then we have another letter “L.” The phrase, “In the name,” we have “the” and the word “Elaha” would be “G-d” and sometimes you have the letter “L” dropped and the shaddah is put there. That is how they reason how you form new words by connecting them with another word. And you also put two words together in English grammar. That is what I believe this one is. It is a word formed from two words. ‘The G-d’ eventually came to be pronounced Allah swt instead of Al elah.
