9 years ago I had the honor and privilege to coordinate and produce part of a historic Gala Inauguration for the 1st Afro-American Governor in the state of Massachusetts. The invite artists were Yo-Yo Ma, Patti Austin, and with great honor an Puerto Rican artist and friend I represented at the time, the renown percussionist, and Berklee professor Eguie Castrillo and his Mambo Orchestra, as an honorific representation of and for the Latino and Puerto Rican Community. What an honor, privilege and thrill to have been asked to do so, see history in the making and be a part of it too adding our special and unique spice and swing to the night and close the Gala Inauguration that evening. Life has been good. There is more coming soon. I promise. In the mean time, here is a short video capturing some of the essence of the moment. Mind you, and worth mentioning, at the end of the night everybody from the other halls winded up in the hall we were playing at enjoying this fantastic orchestra of extremely talented musicians, Berklee Professor put together for this event. You wont see me in the video becasue I was at the sound console, and as always, behind the scenes. Enjoy. Thanks Eguie! And also a big thank you and shout out to Yasuhiko Fukuoka (now an known and respected pianist, composer and film scorer in New York City, and a great friend I cherish very much) who assisted me all night long side by side and took some wonderful pictures of this historic moment. We need to do this again sometime. Were only getting better. youtu.be/C5DZVJW-4Fs
