A lot of folks are getting ready for a good night of aurora - TopicsExpress

A lot of folks are getting ready for a good night of aurora watching, a compositional tip, when the moon is full and out, snow capped mountains really show up nice in the low light long exposure. When the moon is absent, I try and use artificial light to provide a fore ground element. Places that work with that are around towns, boat harbors and believe it or not our glacier is pretty well lite from the parking lot lights. It will really help the composition rather than seeing a profile of a mountain range. Never hard rules to any of this, just my thoughts. You can also paint an object with a flash light while the camera is cooking on the exposure. Paint an old building or boat or anything for a beautiful result. You dont have to have the aurora going to light paint an old boat, experiment and it will also pass the time while you are waiting for the lights to come up. Have fun peeps and be safe on the roads out there tonight!
