A new photo rare discovery in a recent purchase. This is Sarah Smith Griffin (1837-1876) dau. of Hyrum and Jerusha Smith and her husband Charles Emerson Griffin (1836-1900). Sarahs mother died 3 days after her birth and she and the other children where cared for by Hyrams second wife Mary Fielding. Sarah was 7 years old when her father and uncle Joseph Smith were killed in 1844. She is with her daughter Hannah born in 1865. She married Charles on 16 Jan 1854. These are tintype images that were taken in Salt Lake City. The other photo is of Main Street in Salt Lake showing the Constitution Bld. and the Clawson & Eldridge Store, taken by Civil War and Wedding of the Rails photographer Andrew J. Russell. It was taken in 1869. it is 9 1/2 x 12 a very large photo for the time.
