A quick match report from yesterday. A much depleted senior squad - TopicsExpress

A quick match report from yesterday. A much depleted senior squad with injuries, last minute drop outs and unexplained disappearances meant we travelled with 13 and myself who secretly packed my pads and boots for the first time in 3 years. plus thankfully a 3 strong Örebro contingent Our timing skills were poor and plus a bit of uncertainty of our destination meant we got to the field with not many minutes to spare. As to be expected Attila were more than understanding and with themselves in a similar position we decided it was wisest to opt for a tens format (10 a side with 3 x 20 minute periods) allowing both teams 4 rolling substitutions. We came out of the blocks strong and opened the scoring with our first possession, Attila fielded a very young side a couple of lads were only 17 (impressed by their young prop and scrum half who handled themselves very well). But we are a big side and a very physical side and I think they just couldn’t contain us. So we found ourselves breaking the line, but in counterbalance we are shockingly unfit so for those of us without a motor breaking the line was both a gift and a curse as you were highly unlikely to receive support if you made a fast break away. We settled a bit and played some simple rugby quick balls out and began racking up the points. We kept our foot on the gas and used our subs well with 5 minute rotations to keep the legs fresh. But the game was settled early and our big forwards were wining every scrum and that really made all the difference as we capitalized on the possession. The game finished 104-21 to Karlstad and I am going to very honest I have no idea who scored what; I think most of our players grabbed a try as is the nature of tens you will get the ball and the space will open for you. A few glory hunters bagged more than their fair share with white line fever setting in and the ball began to stop making its way down the line, but again to be expected, we were shoddy in defense at times and poorly marked our men for Attilas first try, but were guilty of a comedy of errors for another one of their trys, so things to refocus on in training. Björn played the whole game and acquitted himself very well, lolla was a livewire as was tervell and marcus and björström had decent games but by in large most had a decent run out. Plus you havent lived until you have seen Roffe Jacobsson in full flight side stepping his way to a handy 5 points, it defies logic and gravity but it’s a joy to behold, form is temporary, class is permanent. Both Roffe and myself must be extra commended for rocking those medium jerseys to full effect yesterday, a prettier sight will not be seen in Sweden this summer. Most important though is there was a game of rugby played, in very sporting fashion no dirt or injuries to report and the ref had a nice trot out on a Saturday with two well behaved teams, as always Attila were exceptionally hospitable with a cracking chilli to be had at their clubhouse. We have one last game before the qualifies in the fall and that is the 5th of July which will also be our annual summer party with live rugby and an important home fixture against linköping to decide who finishes second and a lot of live music with 4 bands scheduled to play on the deck, so get on down support the club and enjoy the party.
