A variety of new businesses and developments have popped up on the economic development horizon for Athens area recently. • In Five Points, Condor Chocolates should be occupying the space at 168 S. Lumpkin Street, next to J. Christopher’s. • The Clothes Mentor, a 3,600-square-foot clothing store is slated for 122 Alps Road, where the fitness center was, between Golden Dragon and Stevi B’s. • Yet another mixed-used high rise development is seeking approval for a project on the corner of E. Dougherty and North Lumpkin streets. A new building on the site will feature four floors above ground for 81 residential units (237 beds) and basement level parking. • Atlanta-based Thrive Senior Living has announced plans for a luxurious retirement facility and memory center (Alzheimer’s care) at Georgia Highway 316 and the Oconee Connector. • As reported previously, Waffle House is looking at opening a store at 1828 Barnett Shoals Road. The work includes renovation of 5,000-plus building for the WH and a future retail space. • Reportedly, an Arden’s Garden, which sells fresh juices and smoothies is looking at opening a shop in downtown Athens.
