ALERT: Lee County, FL Considering Rollback of Burdensome Breeder Regulations and MSN Ordinance- Support Needed! Dear AKC Delegates, Club Officers, Judges and Breeders, Please pass this message along to anyone in the Lee County, FL area. At their December 2nd meeting the Lee County Board of Commissioners will be voting on a revised animal control ordinance that essentially repeals a problematic ordinance adopted back in February. The revised ordinance will REMOVE the mandatory spay/neuter provisions, the breeder licensing and inspections provisions, and will reinstate reasonable animal control laws in Lee County. It is critical that responsible owners and breeders in Lee County let their commissioners know they SUPPORT these changes. The Commissioners will also be voting to establish a Domestic Animal Services Advisory Board to address current and future animal control issues. We strongly support animal services working with local stakeholders to craft policy that addresses the health and safety concerns of the community while protecting the rights of responsible owners and breeders. The Lee Alliance for Responsible Dog and Cat Ownership has spent the last several months working with Lee County staff to advocate for these changes. We thank these dedicated individuals for all their work in protecting the rights of responsible owners and breeders. What You Can Do: Please show your support for these positive changes by attending the County Commission meeting on December 2nd. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please email or call the commissioners and thank them for their willingness to work on this issue and encourage passage of the revised ordinance.
