AMK castigates mainstream parties for ignoring Kashmiri language “NC and PDP have sold pride of Kashmir under bogus slogans” SRINAGAR DEC 1 :Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK), the oldest and biggest federation of literary and cultural organisations in Kashmir has strongly criticized the mainstream parties for ignoring the issues related to language and culture. It has called upon them to stop exploiting the Kashmiri sentiments for their lust of power. In a statement issued here the AMK spokesman said that in spite of sensitizing the political parties particularly National Conference and People Democratic Party they have not even bothered to make a passing reference to the issues concerning the culture and language in their manifestos. “Both the parties are crying hoarse over the special status, defending Article 370 and making promises of ensuring life with dignity and honour” the spokesman said adding “but they have failed to even show a concern over the plight of Kashmiri language which is directly linked to identity of the people”. “These so-called slogans of Autonomy and Self Rule are just an eye wash and do not offer anything to people who have been striving for their identity for so many decades”, he said. The spokesman said that the current status of language is only because of this exploitative politics that Kashmir has seen over a period of time. “When these parties do not even mention about safeguarding this language and cultural identity in their manifestos what can they do for the large political aspirations of the people,” he said. The spokesman said that Kashmiri language was the basis of the identity of people living in Kashmiri speaking areas of Jammu and Kashmir and no goal of restoring that identity can be achieved without giving rightful and lost place to the language. AMK spokesman said that while these political parties boast about their concern for Kashmir and talk about the much abused and misused term “Kashmiriyat” but their manifestos have exposed them. “They politicians are comfortable in speaking to gullible Kashmiris during elections in Hindi and Urdu and strangely are seeking votes to protect the identity of Kashmiris” he said. The spokesman asked them to learn from Indian leaders such as M Karunanidhi, Jayalalitha, Mamta Benerjee, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Chandra Babu Naidu and others who speak to their people in their own mother tongue. The AMK asked these parties to stop exploiting the people in the name of identity and wind up their shops of “Autonomy and Self Rule”. “These parties are responsible for selling the pride of Kashmir and are falsely selling these dreams to people” he said adding that the AMK executive has taken strong note of this attitude and will make people aware of these double standards.
