ANNOYING AND DISAPPOINTING! Prayers Can Save Nigeria From The Enemies – Military Spokesman Director of Defence Information, Defence Headquarters, Maj. Gen.Chris Olukolade, has said that it was unfair for Nigerians to disparage members of the Armed Forces toiling day and night to rid the country of insurgents. The army general stated that rather than criticise the leadership of the military services, Nigerians should direct their energy towards offering prayers to God to save Nigeria from her enemies. Olukolade, who described himself as a gospel minister, particularly stated that his family members and colleagues had been alarmed by the barrage of attacks on his personality as the image maker of the Armed Forces. In a 717-word statement he penned on his personal Facebook page titled, “Don’t worry friends: It is well with Nigeria; it is well with me,” the defence spokesman said he was being hounded by a section of the media and a group of “columnists and social media writers.” Claiming that he was not shying away from responsibility or accountability as military spokesman, Olukolade alleged that both criticisms and condemnation were being unleashed on his person. According to him, in an attempt to rubbish his personality, “all sorts of names” have been used to describe him, ranging from “liar, corrupt, cheat, incompetent, destroyer to shameless.” Olukolade said, “I have not become as terrible as some columnists and social media writers have been trying to present me lately. Surely, the grace of God still remains sufficient for me indeed. I still hold my integrity and fear of God so dearly. “Those who feel they must destroy my name and reputation in their desperate efforts to attack the government; ruin the Nigerian military and do everything possible to destroy our great country Nigeria will never succeed by the grace of God. “As for me, no amount of hatred or attacks can stop me in my passionate commitment to loving and serving my country in total submission to Godly principles and character. I am a career officer doing my best to serve my country in the most diligent fashion. “I am not a politician and should be spared the dirty fight going on out there. I call on my friends to just keep praying that God will save Nigeria from all her enemies. I need that prayer too. Indeed, it is well with Nigeria.” Besides, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Monday stated that he was looking up unto God to deliver Nigeria from the grip of Boko Haram. As the Boko Haram insurgents continued an expansionist drive of seizing towns and communities in the north eastern geo-political zone, Okupe stated that he was embarking on a special prayer session. The prayer session, he stated, was to seek the face of God in exposing the real sponsors of the extremists with a view to finding a lasting solution to the insurgency ravaging the Nort-Eastern region. Likening himself to Prophet Elijah in the Bible, Okupe tweeted, “Day 1: Our Prayer: Jehovah, Arise and defeat Boko Haram in Jesus name. Jehovah, expose Boko Haram sponsors in 40 days. “Elijah was a man like me. Before God whom I serve, my pronouncements over Boko Haram shall come to pass. God will answer us “The Lord is with us as a mighty one. Boko Haram will stumble and not prevail. They and their sponsors will be put to shame. With God All things are possible. “God is the very essence of our being. We exalt Him in private and in the public. He is our God, helper defender and all in all.” The presidential aide insisted that the Federal Government would not allow any group to lay claims to Nigerian territories under any guise. “Nigeria’s map has not and will not change,” Okupe stated. Meanwhile, online commentators have said that it was wrong to resign the fate of the ongoing war against terrorism to God. Political blogger, Kayode Ogundamisi, stated that it was worrisome that top Presidency aides were now ascribing the duties of Nigeria’s Defence Minister to God. “New Minister of Defence in Nigeria, according to Okupe, is ‘Jehovah.’ Did He (Jehovah) also partake in the over N1trn security budget?” Ogundamisi asked. Another social critic, Johnson Enaholo, asked if Okupe was expecting the biblical “Chariot of Fire” to help battle the Boko Haram insurgents. “Since Okupe has revealed that our new Defence Minister is Jehovah, should we be expecting chariots of fire?” Enaholo queried.
