ARMY TO BUILD HOTEL IN ENUGU The Nigerian Army is to build a standard hotel in Enugu as part of its efforts to diversify its sources of funding, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, said on Wednesday. Inaugurating the refurbished Officers’ Mess at the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu, Ihejirika said the hotel would be built under a public-private partnership arrangement. He said the hotel would offer alternative to soldiers in transit and would also be made accessible to the civilian population. The army chief said that on assumption of duty as the army chief, he was confronted with the sorry state of infrastructure in the service which he had to tackle. Ihejirika commended the division for the renovation work at the mess which he described as a five-star mess. On getting here, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of refurbishment. It is one thing to make funds available and quite another to get it utilised for the purpose. He said that he was lucky to serve under a commander-in-chief who had passion to transform all sectors of the country. Speaking earlier, the General Officer Commanding the division, Maj.-Gen. Adebayo Olaniyi, said the regimentation in the life of the soldier made the mess an important place to socialise and interact. Olaniyi said that the chief of army staff was leaving many legacies behind, thanking him for supporting the refurbishment of the mess. follow the news (NAN)
