ASTON UNITY 2’S VS ANSLEY 31.07.14 In baking hot weather, much to the relief of the home team, Roger won the toss and elected to bat first. Rocky and Graham opened up and it wasn’t long before Graham was back in the hutch, bowled for a duck, 8-1. This brought in Jords to join Rocky and the pair added 60 runs together, Jordan obviously with his lucky pants on after being dropped 78 times in the process. Rocky then perished caught mid off for 20, 68-2. Craig came in to join Jordan and ran the ball around well and dispatching the bad ball to the boundary, before Craig played on, leaving the score on 105-3. Jordan’s lives well and truly ran out shortly afterwards again holing out to mid on and the score was 112-4. This brought Jacob into join Irusha and they both batted really well scoring at a good pace and added 32 before, Jacob was caught for 11, 144-5. Young Broughton sprinted out to the wicket and played some great shots adding 39 with Irusha before being well caught and bowled for 11, 183-6. Cal,aka Tom Daley, plunged into join Irusha and the pair added a very useful 46 runs, before Daley’s fake tan ran out and he holed out, obviously desperate to get back for another coating, 229-7. By this point there were about 9 overs to go and thoughts in the dressing room were whether the team should add some very quick runs or declare now and give ourselves more overs to bowl Ansley out. Roger batted on and Matt came in with a free licence to play his shots. Irusha’s well played innings was ended as he was caught well in the covers for 74 and the score was 242-8. With only Roger and the King to bat, Matt took matters into his own hands and added a quickfire 20, including a mammoth six before both he and Roger perished. Leaving the boys 270 all out in the 49th over. Ansley began very cautiously and only upped the rate in the later stages. Craig bowled very well without any luck, and the King bowled well without any initial success It took until the first bowling change where Tom Daley offered up some buffet bowling for the opening bat to hit the ball straight down Jonny Broughton’s throat – cue Crouchy’s Robot celebration and standing ovation from the spectators, score 43-1. Jeff than began to get into his stride and bowled some great balls, eventually prising out Ansley’s 3 and 4, to a couple more good catches from Cal and Graham 63-3. From then on a good partnership took place between Robin, the Ansley captain and Ansley’s stylish number 5 bat who dispatched all bowlers (in particular Matt) for a few boundaries with the field up pushing for wickets. Late on, Matt picked up Robin’s wicket caught behind unconventionally by Rog, with the ball lodged between his knee’s, 132-4. Matt put down a sharp caught and bowled and the 5th wicket partnership put on a slow 32 runs. Just before the end Craig was brought back and deservedly took a wicket, caught well by Jordan. The score finished up 177-5 and a winning draw for Unity.
