Acts 20:7, Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples - TopicsExpress

Acts 20:7, Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. Why Sunday, I believe three main reasons. First, it was for an observation; Sunday was the day that Jesus was resurrected. Second, it was for a celebration; just as they observed Jesus being raised up they also celebrated the Holy Spirit being sent down. Thirdly, their meeting on Sunday was a veneration; just a simple day set apart to worship the Lord. When we are told that the disciples "came together" this means that they did so on a constant and consistent basis. The breaking of bread together speaks of the fellowship that they enjoyed. How many intimate times have your enjoyed with family and friends around your dining room table? The reason for the godly gathering? Another opportunity for the word of God to be preached. So a couple of considerations when it comes to the church and when it comes to your church. Does your church function like a body? The church is not to be just another organization but a living organism. It will have many members but different functions. Each function should be embraced by each member. Each member must embrace the function of others. This church will be an organism that grows only when each member does its share. The church is to love like a family. A church should be a place where there are no strangers through a willingness to know one another. We are to care for one another in prayer, Love with the love from above, and have a passion for compassion. The church is to be safe as a sanctuary. Out in the word we are on our guard but here in the church we should be able to be our spiritual selves. The church is to be pure as a bride. The church should be that place of purity that I do not have that barrage upon my: ears, eyes, feelings, mind. When I come to church I should know that I am spiritually safe. Hebrews 10:25, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Pastor Mike)
