Agriculture Minister Commends Government’s Fiscal Efficiency Published on Thursday, 25 September 2014 11:14 Government is proving efficient in the economic and financial management of the country. This is according to the hon. Minister for Agriculture, Matthew Walter. Hon. Walter gave praises to the Hon. Finance Minister and Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, and his Labour Party Administration at Parliament, during the debate of supplementary estimates last Thursday September 18th. He stated, “I need to commend the prime minister and the government of the dominica labour party for what I describe as excellent management of the economy of this country. This supplementary estimate which is presented to this Parliament is manifestation of the prudent management practices exhibited by the Prime Minister and his Cabinet. This is why today the public servants are getting their salaries on time.” According to Hon. Walter, proof of this is evidenced by Government’s various social programmes, and projects undertaken by the various ministries which, the hon. Minister affirmed, are faring well. Government has invested heavily in these initiatives, with the Hon. Finance Minister’s supplementary estimates presentation recording over $49,000 towards the fight against Black Sigatoka, over $480,000 in assistance for disaster victims and over $490,000 to improve housing. According to Hon. Walter, the Prime Minister is transparent with the dissemination of information about the country’s finances and is not oblivious to the fact that his Government is faced with obstacles in obtaining its goals for the growth of the economy. According to the Hon. Finance Minister in his Budget address earlier this year, Government has done its best despite the challenges, but the challenges persist. However, he ensured that through focus and determination to deliver results, the Labour Party administration is resolved to overcome these challenges.
