Alexander Duncan Maclean asked me what makes me a community - TopicsExpress

Alexander Duncan Maclean asked me what makes me a community leader... This is probably more a question for the community than for me, but I think both my previous role at RDPC as principal, and my current role, were those of a community leader. With these roles, the designation actually comes with the role. Why have others referred to me as a community leader? I suspect its because I participate on a number of commitees, councils and associations, both as a representative of my employer and as an individual, and because I lead by example as best I can. It may also be because of my volunteer service as a coach and parent. In addition, the Premier of the Province chose me to serve on his Economic Advisory Council, the Minister of Jobs and the Economy appointed me to her Workforce Advisory Council (Im currently the vice-chair), and I also serve as a community leader on the Deputy Minister of Educations advisory committee for northern workforce development, to name a few. Basically, I show up and I advocate for the people of the north, for students, for education and workforce development, and for the community that I love. Anyone can do it, and anyone can be it--all that is required is motivation, participation, the courage to speak, and the willingness to listen respectfully. People who dedicate themselves to something larger than themselves (in this case community and education/learning) and their interests, tend to be regarded as leaders.
