All weekend I was in a daze as I tried to think of a third story - TopicsExpress

All weekend I was in a daze as I tried to think of a third story for the next Summer House book. I went to a big street fair and stopped at every booth — except the food as that was too tempting — and bought some reading glasses. I returned via Fifth Avenue, which means that I was trapped in an ocean of tourists. It took hours to get back, and I was tired but had no new ideas for my story. Sunday I didn’t leave my apartment, just stared at the TV, watching shows I’d seen before so I wouldn’t be distracted, and thought hard. Nothing. But then came Monday morning, and I thought, Hey! What if this girl ends up with Olivia’s son? I went running up the stairs to my office to start writing. It took me about 2 minutes to remember that 1, in the past, Olivia didn’t have a son and 2, the son she is going to have is the hero of my next book, and 3, how could she know her unborn child was going to be what this girl would like? Great! Days of thinking and the one idea I’d come up with was useless. I decided to write it down anyway. One sentence followed another and 2 hours later I had the whole thing worked out. No to Olivia’s son, but golly gee, there are zillions of gorgeous Montgomerys in Maine. I just have to get my cute little heroine up there and I’m sure she’s bound to like one of them. I wrote everything down then had to run to an appointment, returned and wrote some more. Her name is Elise. Note that I didn’t get anything done on the book I’m supposed to be working on. But I know that if I don’t get book ideas down I’ll lose them. Do you know of anyone who has married someone just to please his/her family? I’m thinking of plots, as always. Jude
