Another rant. So I opened MSN, its generally what I do get get caught up on the worlds stupid people. I see this link Dads math rant goes viral so I read it. The short of it was he was complaining about a common core math strategy called a number line and how he could not figure out how to a correct answer for 427-316 using said number line and he has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering so I was like wow.....and they want a kid to do it. Well I dont have kids but it got me interested because I had no recollection at all about what a number line strategy is but I also have a degree from an engineering college and there was some seriously challenging math involved in earning it so I did what everyone does when he or she wants to know about anything.... I googled it, then hit images. I want everyone to know that the entire process including the googling a sample and then creating the correct number line on a post- it note took less than 20 seconds. While I agree it is stupid, in no way at all was it challenging, and I can see a use for it if your math skills are sub par as a person breaks a problem they might be intimidated by into small simple parts. I certainly would not get online saying I have an engineering degree and cant do this. Granted I know nothing else about the Common Core and its pros and coins, but I did learn to never hire that guy as an engineer. I wish they had put his alma mater so I could put it on my future kids do not attend list. Seriously how do you get an engineering degree and not have the ability yo figure this out. I have attached the picture for you non believers. I cant believe I wasted 15 minutes of my life trying to make this post on my stupidly slow smart phone but this seriously pisses me off.
