As Monty Python would say - now for something completely - TopicsExpress

As Monty Python would say - now for something completely different! Ive always loved the melody to Rufus Wainwrights Hallelujah, which was popularized, of course, by Leonard Cohen. However, despite possessing a beautifully simple tune, and the chorus consisting completely of Hallelujah - a word Christians utter rather often (Or used to, at least) it is, as one Christian co-worker put it, A mockery of Gods work in the life of King David, and of God in general. In the last few years, two different artists have come along and attempted to redeem the song, with its marvelous melody, by writing lyrics to it that are much cleaner, more Christ-centered and therefore more honoring to him. I would now like to offer my own rewrite of this song. I hope that the juxtaposition of this simple, yet haunting melody will lead you to a spirit of humble worship of our Eternal, Triune God - all wise, all knowing, and infinitely mighty to save. Special thanks to the original poster of this video for sharing his wonderful arrangement. Once I complete the lyrics, I hope to sing the song at both of my churches - West Pines Baptist of Avon, and Pine Ridge Bible of Goshen. I encourage you to follow along with the words and music and turn your eyes to Christ this evening, leaving your burdens, once again, at His feet - as Ive had to do today. Without Further ado... https://youtube/watch?v=NFgMXFzRjvQ Lyrics: I heard the shout, Hes on His way! Our King will come to us today. Hosanna to the blessed Son of David! But they could never understand You were born to be the Lamb, To take our sin and die upon the Cross. Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Hallelujah, Hallelujah. You hung upon a Roman Tree, You shed your blood and set me free, The Lamb of God, a Holy sacrifice. You cried a prayer, you took a breath, and with these words you conquered death, It is finished! Oh, Hallelujah! Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Hallelujah, Hallelujah. They laid you in a borrowed grave - They thought that you were there to stay, but they forgot the promise you had spoken. In three days, as you had said, You rose again from the dead And now you reign in glory with the Father! Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Hallelujah, Hallelujah. And just as you have gone away, you will come again one day To take your bride to live with you forever. And when the battle has been won, You will sit on Davids throne and to the Lamb of God we will sing Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
