As catchy, charismatic passages hold our full attention hostage, their relevance to the ‘now’ of our situations seems almost undeniable. In addition to sounding good, it’s comforting to feel understood in our circumstances. Today, many individuals within the church are mesmerized by the eloquent words pouring passionately from the mouths of those we deem as spiritual icons of this era. However, in terms of the larger picture of our personal spiritual journeys, something integral could be missing from the total equation. We focus largely on the flashy words being sent across pulpits, webcasts, even radio airwaves.
