As you know, last week, I was too pooped to tell!!! Well, here it is. As usual we went on a very adventurous walk. Once again Melvin and Ana out did themselves, showing us more fantastic sights!!! In the beginning we walked to the top of a mountain on a steep city road. We stopped at a beautiful restaurant which also had cute little cabins for rent. The grounds were stunning. This area of the mountain was known for its cedar trees. I felt like I was in the land of Oz walking through that cypress tree tunnel!!! We had a lovely picnic with lots of Costa Rican fruit! There was no way of knowing it at the time, but we were going to need the carbs in that fruit to get home!!! After our picnic, we were trying to figure out how to get across the finka from one ridge to another. We were told it was possible, but we needed to ask for permission. The first people we were advised to ask were not home. We walked a little farther and we asked another person if we could cut through their land. He said we could but we needed to stay clear of the dogs. As we walked there were 3 or 4 dogs chained to dog houses lunging like crazy at us. I swear that one was going to break the chain. These dogs were clearly vicious. I saw a device for the first time, where the pickers put the coffee beans in this bin and they fall down into a truck parked below. We could hear the river running, but we could not get down close enough to cross it. The plants near the river all had burrs, so we were loaded with burrs as we made our way to the river. We finally found river access, but crossing was not easy either. The rocks had green moss on them and were very slippery. I was using two sticks to stabilize myself as I crossed the river. I looked like such a geek!!! It seemed like we walked forever!!! I will admit that this is the first time a walk kicked my butt to this degree. When all was said and done, this was a 4 hour hike, with a significant portion of it going up hill. Once again we all made it home and lived to tell about, even if the telling was a little late!!!
