As you look in the book of Jonah you will read about how the Lord ordered a fish to swallow Jonah, and he was in the fish belly for 3 days and 3 nights, before he entered into the fish belly the Lord had given him a Word to announce to a city, but instead of fulfilling his assignment he made an attempt to run away from the Lord. So therefore while he was on his run away mission, the Lord sent a fish to swallow him. The Lord often uses afflictions, not to punish us but to bring us back to Him, Sometimes in life the Lord will allow us to hit rock bottom, to get us to realize our sins causing us to weep, mourn, and repent, Jonah was in the fish belly for 3 days and 3 nights. God will allow you to be in the fish belly until you humble yourself realize your sins and come to such repentance, turning from your wicked ways. I remember when I was in college, the most shameful time of my life, first semester ended, and I came home, talking about being in a fish belly for 3 days and 3 nights, it wasnt until I reached the point when I finally just had enough I was drained mentally, physically spiritually, I was beyond broken and felled to my knees just giving it all to the Lord, and literally I believe a couple of hours or so later things began to change a shift in my life, a shift in the atmosphere took place. At that moment I just knew the Lord rescued me, causing the fish who belly I was in to spit me out, and I thank God literally for all of those moment where I had to be brought down to realize God in my life, and my sins. God is so compassionate and merciful he really does loves us. When I was a child I felt like I always had to have the last word and my mom would come and pop in my mouth and send me to my room and I would just cry and cry, than I would realize if I wouldve just listen and shut my mouth I wouldnt be in here, this gulity feeling definitely will arise in me. God disciplines us as well, he correct us, bringing us to the state where we will recognize our sins and asks Him for forgiveness. As the book goes on in Chapter 2 the Lord gives Jonah another chance, our GOD is so forgiving, though we really do not deserve another chance he still gives us them. And just as God is so forgiving and compassionate to us that is how we should be towards each other, I honestly do not deserve the Lord kindness and mercy yet, he stills gives it to me. What a loving God I serve. So I want to encourage you all not to give up on the Lord everything he does is for a reason, most of the time we wont understand why we were in the predicament that we were in until we are brought out of it, because our GOD works in such mysterious ways, for our good. Dont get discouraged when the Lord disciplines you, because like a parent he disciplines his children whom he loves. God wants whats best for you more than you want what is best for yourself. Only the God who is truly merciful and full of grace would go to such length to restore our relationship with him and that, of course, is why He sent Jesus All Glory to Our most merciful compassionsate, loving, everlasting God. Jonah 2:2-3, 6-7, 9-10 He said, “I cried out to the Lord in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and Lord , you heard me! You threw me into the ocean depths, and I sank down to the heart of the sea. The mighty waters engulfed me; I was buried beneath your wild and stormy waves. I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O Lord my God, snatched me from the jaws of death! As my life was slipping away, I remembered the Lord . And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple. I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the Lord alone.” Then the Lord ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach.
