Author speaks at UMD about copper-nickel mining By KBJR News 1 November 7, 2013 Duluth, MN (NNCNOW) -- The University of Minnesota Duluth hosted a discussion about the potential impact of a copper–nickel mine. Bill Carter, the author of Boom, Bust, Boom: A Story About Copper, spoke about his experiences with copper nickel mining. Carter is from Arizona a state which he says has an extensive copper–nickel mining industry. Carter addressed several environmental concerns about mining the mineral, but said he also understands copper is important to our everyday lives. His book explores the role of copper in the world economy, along with the history of copper extraction. Copper mining is very different than Iron Ore mining, Its a different process its much more toxic. So I just want to make sure people understand both the incredible value of copper as a metal, its very important to our lives at the same time it has a very heavy price for extracting it, said Carter. Carter is an award winning documentary film–maker, photographer and journalist.
