BAYBAY CITY - The supporters of defeated mayoral candidate Marilou Malot Galenzoga had an illegal assembly that resulted chaos to the populace in front of the City Hall and Legislative building around 1 PM of June 30. According to Police Inspector Carlito Gallardo, the group violently stoned the City Hall and Legislative building which resulted in multiple damages of government properties including the computers therein. The PNP Electric Car, LGU Fire Truck and Toyota Innova owned by LGU-Baybay were also damaged. CMD and PNP personnel were also showered with stones during the crowd control and were reported injured. They are SPO2 Reynaldo Villaber, PO3 Manson Pasadas, PO2 Napolen Gecain, PO2 Agripino Padrique, PO1 Dream Orit, PO1 Jundyle Cular, PO1 Wilfred Canlas and PO1 Bryan German Macaso. Three firefighters were also hurt and one person was allegedly hit by a hard object, which was believed to be a bullet, on his left waist while viewing the incident. No fatality was reported fortunately. Mayor Carmen Cari expressed her disappointment about the incident. Its really depressing and disappointing to see Baybayanons hurt their fellow Baybayanons. This is the first time in the history of our beloved City. I hope and pray that this will not happen again, she said in her speech during the inauguration rites last July 1. Meanwhile, more or less 750 persons, including four defeated councilor candidates under Malots slate: Eric Avila, Virgie Dumaguing, Ern Munez and Aki Baledeu, were brought to Baybay City jail and Leyte sub-provincial jail. According to our confidential informant, persons who joined "peaceful" rally were recruited and vowed to be given cash worth 1,500 and 5,000 pesos will be given to what they called as "group leaders". As of 3 PM of July 1, 734 supporters of Malot were charged with direct assault and destruction of public properties.
