BRIEFING: Meikhtila Displaced Suffer Water Shortage More than a year after they were forced from their homes by anti-Muslim riots, some 900 people still living in a camp for the displaced are facing health problems caused by a lack of water, reports DVB. Water rations at the cramped 1.7-acre camp on the premises of the local Water Resource Office—one of five shelters housing some 8,000 victims, both Muslim and Buddhist, who lost their homes during three days of rioting in March 2013—have been reduced from 1,600 gallons to 1,200 gallons per month, camp coordinators said. Seven people have recently been hospitalized for diarrhea and dehydration caused by the water shortage, the report said.
