Bear with me for a little (for me) life changing story? Ive gotten pretty used to the poor and homeless outside even the fanciest grocery stores in L.A. asking for money. As someone who never carries cash, its easy to tell them so. But tonight, as I left the market, there was this old woman, maybe she was 60, maybe she was 80, and as I walked to my car, I heard her say to the sidewalk, Im just so hungry. I had to stop. What would you like to eat? A sandwich? Chicken Noodle Soup. Id love some of that Chicken Noodle Soup! Which kind? I asked, wondering if she wanted a can of Campbells. Her face brightened, Oh, that wonderful soup from the soup bar! Not sure where the soup bar was, I asked, Can you come with me and show me? She said, Oh, no..They dont let me in there. It took me a beat then I said, They let me in there. And youre with me. Whats your name? Sue...sort of. Then she asked me, and I said, Lisa...sort of.. We filled up a couple of quart buckets of soup as she kept saying, Oh, oh, look at that chicken, so much chicken. Those noodles. Those Noodles. I tried to buy her more, but she declined. We went through the self check out line, I paid with a credit card to which she said, Isnt that something...thats a little miracle. As I drove away, she sitting on the curb, tucked into her soup supper, she waved her soup spoon high in the air, shouting, Thank You, Lisa-Sort-Of!! Thank the universe for what you have tonight....And let Your Soup Spoon fly High.....
