Bengal Bypoll: People of Bengal repose their faith in Trinamool September 16, 2014 The results of the by-elections in two Assembly seats - Chowringhee and Basirhat Dakshin - were declared today. Polling was held at the two constituencies on September 13, 2014. Trinamool retained the Chowranghee assembly seat. Party candidate Nayana Bandyopadhyay won by a margin of over 14000 votes. In the Lok Sabha elections held in May, 2014 Trinamool came second in this seat, trailing by a margin of about 1400 votes. The Basirhat Dakshin seat, which was vacated after the death sitting Left MLA, was won by BJP. Although the BJP were leading from this seat by a margin of about 30000 votes in Lok Sabha polls, the victory margin came down significantly to 1700 today. All India General Sercretary of Trinamool, Mr Mukul Roy addressed the press after results were declared. This is what he said: It has been proved once again that people of Bengal trust Mamata Banerjee. We salute the Maa, Mati, Manush of Bengal. People of Bengal have given their support to the surge of development started by West Bengal Government. We must view these Assembly by-polls in the context of Lok Sabha poll results. We were trailing in both seats in May. We have increased our vote share in Chowringhee. We were trailing by 1500. Now we won by almost 15000 votes. In May, 2014 BJP lead in Basirhat Dakshin by 32000 votes. Now we have narrowed the margin. We have recovered 28000 votes in Basirhat Dakshin compared to Lok Sabha election. Dipendu Biswas fought well. We will field Dipendu Biswas again in 2016 Assembly election. Even at national level, it is clear that people have withdrawn the support they showered on BJP in Lok Sabha polls. Modi magic has faded in 100 days. Centre is using agencies politically against Trinamool. There is no place for communal politics in Bengal. Congress and Left are insignificant in Bengal now. We thank the people of Bengal once again on behalf of Ms Mamata Banerjee.
