Birmingham Barbarians got their regular season underway with a close fought 29-15 victory over local rivals Aston Old Edwardians at their Moor Lane HQ. The visitors opened the scoring early on with a try in the corner. Slowly but surely the Barbarians woke up with their dominant pack taking the game to Aston Old Eds, Back rower Keith Jones stormed over after a good break by 18-year-old Liam Burlace. The hosts struck again soon after with Roy Fisher touching down after a sublime 50-yard break by scrum half Luke Todd. Ill discipline from Aston Old Eds led to a penalty for the Barbarians on their own 5 metre line and a quick tap and go from Fisher saw him slide over for his second try just before the break. Aston Old Eds hit back at the start of the second half with two quick tries but the Barbarians soon regained a stranglehold with a perfectly timed pass from veteran Paul Crosbie releasing Fisher for his hat-trick. Towards the end the Barbarians cemented victory with a 40 yard run and touchdown from Leon Robinson after good work by Chris Kilarney
