Busy day today! This afternoon, our oldest daughter and I will be headed to Capitol Hill to meet with Sen. Warner (D-Va) about the EPAs climate change report -- as part of a delegation of over two dozen interfaith leaders representing five faith traditions (Bahai, Jewish, Muslim, Unitarian Universalist, and Christian) and seven denominations of Christianity (Baptist, Catholic, Evangelical, Friends, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist). Last month, the EPA proposed the first-ever national limits on carbon pollution from existing power plants -- our nations single greatest source of the heat-trapping pollution that is causing climate change. While weve been glad to see Sen. Warner show restraint in his reception to the rules so far -- requesting an extended comment period, and making a statement saying he would review the rule and consult with a broad variety of Virginia stakeholders -- we know hell be under a lot of pressure over the coming months to condemn or interfere with the rules. Our group will be asking Sen. Warner not to participate in any Congressional efforts to interfere with the EPAs Clean Power Plan. This meeting came as a result of a previous meeting we had with the Senators staff and a conference call we had with the Senator. Will update yall on our continued progress!
