CUBE Ensemble workshop-Punk Rock Julius Caesar CUBE Ensemble is developing a production of William Shakespeares Julius Caesar. Charlie McGrath of Proud Kate Theatre Project is directing the workshop. It’s an abridged, streamlined version of one of Shakespeare’s most famous and most intense plays. And it’s also set in the world of punk rock. We want to make it fast, dirty, gritty, angry, aggressive, and bombastic, just like punk. Cube received a residency from High Concept Labs, and we’ll be using their space and resources to aid us in a workshop. We’ll be working on creating original music and an original score, further refining the script, developing some of the ensemble characters to have through-lines (as opposed to spear-carrier #3), and exploring how movement, verse and punk rock music come together to tell this story in a clear and meaningful way, with an emphasis in working as an ensemble. This will culminate in a 15-minute promenade performance at High Concept Labs on March 29th with the possibility of an extended showing and will set us on the path to a full production, to be produced next season. Rehearsals to begin immediately following the audition, mostly on weekends. We hope to invite the workshop artists to take part in the full production. We will be holding auditions at High Concept Labs in the Mana Contemporary Building at 2233 S. Throop St. on Saturday February 8 at 11am. Materials to prepare: •Come with one classical monologue of your choice as well as one contemporary monologue that shows off what you do best.
