Chinas rail freight ends decline in third quarter in wake of reforms Chinas recovering economy and the effectiveness of national railway reforms have reversed a continuous year-on-year decline rail freight in the third quarter, Xinhua reports. Chinas outbound railway cargo volume stopped falling in July and carried steady growth into August and September, said an official from the China Railway Corporation. In the third quarter, Chinas average daily outbound railway cargo volume increased 4.8 per cent year on year and 3.3 per cent month to month to 8.65 million tonnes. Average daily loaded rail cargo wagons increased 3.9 per cent year on year and 3.2 per cent month on month to 134,000 cars. White cargo as in electronic goods, household items and food in comparison to black cargo like coal and steel, climbed month to month in volume. In August, average daily white cargo loading volume grew five per cent month on month to 22,233 railcars. In September, it went up by 5.9 per cent year from the previous month to 23,544 carloads. The above mentioned official also noted that the improved service, streamlined and more flexible procedures, clearer price structures and more convenient door-to-door delivery, which are brought about by the railway reforms, have attracted new business.
