Colours #9 - Pink This may be unsettling but in the 19th century, boys wore pink and girls wore blue. A 1918 article from the trade publication Earnshaws Infants Department said, “The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger colour, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl.” It wasn’t until the 1940s that retailers decided on pink for girls and blue for boys. Then the 70s women’s lib movement pushed retailers to gender neutrality. Being in the pink signifies good health and everythings rosy success.
