Community groups share in funding Eight Maroondah community groups will be able to complete various programs and projects after successfully applying for grants as part of the 2013-14 Maroondah Funding Assistance for Community Groups program. Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Nora Lamont said the scheme brought together Council and community groups to establish a planned approach to facility design, development and management, that meets community needs. “The scheme is commonly called the third, third, third funding program as one third of the total cost of each project is funded by Council, one third in a deferred payment to be repaid to Council by the relevant organisation, and one third to be paid as a cash contribution by the organisation upon completion of the project,” Cr Lamont said. “The financial assistance the groups receive via this program will allow them to increase the availability and range of services, facilities and programs throughout the municipality,” said Cr Lamont said. “Council is pleased to be able to assist these groups to complete projects which would take them years to fundraise enough money to build alone,’’ Cr Lamont said. Council has approved the allocation of funds to the following projects: 1st Maroondah Scout Group: for the replacement of existing wooden flooring North Ringwood Community Children’s Centre: for a room extension and to ensure the facility meets disability compliance Yarra Valley Bridge Club Inc: to extend the East Ringwood Senior Citizens Centre to provide club rooms for the Club North Ringwood Pre-School Inc: to purchase and install six outdoor storage boxes and two outside water drinking fountains Parkwood Tennis Club: to install airconditioning Cheong Park Gem & Mineral Club: to upgrade electrical and plumbing services for the club’s polishing machines Parkwood Tennis Club: to extend the existing deck and construct a pergola The projects will be jointly funded by Council at a cost of $97,000, as part of the Funding Assistance for Community Groups 2013/2014 Program budget. Cr Lamont said a wide range of applications were assessed under the program, but projects satisfying a community need, that broaden community access and increase opportunities for participation, addressed safety issues and risk management and maximised the use of the facility, were given priority. To be eligible for the grant the facility must be either Council owned or Council managed land.
