Compassion, not criticism yall. Well said, Priya: there is no pain comparable to losing a loved one. but calling a person selfish for taking their own life is an inherently selfish thing to say. why is your pain more valid than theirs? if you feel that a person is selfish, weak, or somehow diminished because they chose suicide, please consider that in their minds, it isnt really a choice. depression is a heavily researched, well documented, MEDICAL condition. it does not discriminate. you cant think it away with positive thoughts or sheer will power. it doesnt matter how rich or famous or popular you are. please dont contribute to the stigma that surrounds mental illness. its already hard enough for those who suffer from depression to make it from one day to the next. lets stop criticizing people who resort to suicide and instead reflect on why we arent doing more to stop it.
