Complete shutdown in Kashmir on Modi’s visit Daanish Bin Nabi Srinagar: Strict curfew has been imposed in old city of Srinagar, while a complete shutdown is being observed elsewhere in Kashmir in response to the strike call given by Separatists groups against the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kashmir. Reports said all shops, offices, commercial establishments and educational institutions in valley are closed while public traffic is completely off the roads. Meanwhile, CRPF troopers and policemen are deployed in Maharaj Gunj, Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal Jehangir Chowk, Iqbal Park, Hyderpora, Batmaloo, where curfews-like restrictions were imposed since Sunday night to foil protests against Modi’s visit. No traffic moment is allowed beyond Jehangir Chowk towards Lal Chowk, areas beyond Dalgate upto Pantha Chowk are also kept under tight vigil and no one is allowed to move in these areas. Donning riot gear and carrying automatic rifles, forces maintained tight vigil on the movement of the civilians. Besides blocking lanes, by lanes and streets of the downtown with barricades and spools of razor wire, the forces had also placed armoured vehicles at important crossings. The police have also placed Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani and several other leaders of the conglomerate under house arrest.
