Considering the number of women I see saying things like I want a man who will show up on a date with plans made, instead of asking me what I feel like doing its not surprising that romantic comedies are failing miserably, as well as the actresses who almost exclusively star in them. Women tend to like take-charge guys, and because of that, those guys choose movies THEY want to see (like Transformers, as mentioned in the article). If a woman would plan out a date for a guy, then she could pick the movie they go see, and the guy could whine and complain that he doesnt want to go to a chick flick until the girl mentioned they could make out during the boring parts. The article also mentions something quite specific, something Ive thought for a long time: men want to see men in movies, and women want to see men in movies. However, few women want to see women in movies (that whole competition thing springs to mind) and even less men want to see women in starring roles. So, yeah, the romantic comedies are pretty much the lowest kind of movie overall, and thats why the leading ladies in them struggle so bad to get those polarizing roles. Great counterexample is Cameron Diaz in Bad Teacher (also mentioned in the article), because that movie was just plain funny as shit. Jennifer Aniston in Wanderlust and Horrible Bosses is another example. Wonderful, strictly comedy. Guys tend not to like those sappy, romantic, mildly dramatic rom-coms, but love regular comedies. How about that. dailydot/opinion/the-reason-people-hate-katherine-heigl/
