Cor, a very tough session today after 2 days off. I just made my target of 8 reps at 205kg on the deadlifts. My best, before the last holiday, was 8x210kg. When I moved onto bench, I actually lost a rep from 6 days ago, so was very dissapointed, and my first thought was I had not gotten my nutrition right on the those 2 days off. I basically felt drained, so it was a natural conclusion that I simply hadnt eaten enough carbs. However, when I went on to do my follow up sets on the bench at 5kg lighter, I actually got 2 more than 6 days ago. So this failure was an eye opener. I wasnt getting weaker overall, drained, or down on my nutrition, it was just I had exhausted my CNS on the power end. All my lifts are within 5% of my personal bests, so it makes sense that Im not just going to suddenly beat them all. So, Im going to drop all my lifting weights down to my lower weight second set weight, and bash out those higher reps, which will not only give my CNS a little recovery time, but also keep my potential 1 rep max lift the same. Exciting to see how well this goes, but itll be about another 3-4 weeks to see if it works.
