DAY 6 of 40 DAYS IN THE WORD “GOD HAS SOMETHING TO SAY” Is it my imagination or are people more interested in talking to God than listening to God? It’s early in our 40 DAYS IN THE WORD CAMPAIGN, but when we started our 40 DAYS OF PRAYER last August there was lots of excitement. I have heard very little about our 40 DAYS IN THE WORD. It may be there just isn’t anything to say and I hope that is the case. The truth of the matter is however, it is easier to talk to God than listen to Him! That more than any other reason is why we are doing this campaign. Today is DAY 6 so we have a long way to go. Are you taking time on a daily basis (at least Monday through Friday) to read something out of God’s Word? Don’t rely solely on these devotionals. I want to get you into a habit of not only talking to God, but listening to Him. Reading the Word over the next 40 DAYS will help you create a good spiritual habit. The Bible is the manual for your life that God has provided. When you buy a complicated piece of equipment and need to put it together, you follow the instruction manual. If this makes sense to us, why then do we not seriously consider God’s Word by reading, obeying and applying it to our daily lives? My hope is that you will look back after these 40 DAYS and not say, “Look at what I did,” but rather, “Look at what I started!” I pray the verses below will teach you a little something about God’s grace as well as provide instructions for living today. “WHAT CAN WE BRING TO THE LORD TO MAKE UP FOR WHAT WE HAVE DONE? SHOULD WE BOW BEFORE GOD WITH OFFERINGS OF YEARLING CALVES? SHOULD WE OFFER HIM THOUSANDS OF RAMS AND TENS OF THOUSANDS OF RIVERS OF OLIVE OIL? WOULD THAT PLEASE THE LORD? SHOULD WE SACRIFICE OUR FIRSTBORN CHILDREN TO PAY FOR THE SINS OF OUR SOULS? WOULD THAT MAKE HIM GLAD? NO, O PEOPLE, THE LORD HAS ALREADY TOLD YOU WHAT IS GOOD, AND THIS IS WHAT HE REQUIRES: TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT, TO LOVE MERCY, AND TO WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD.” Pastor Carnes
