DC chairs DWSM meeting JAMMU, NOVEMBER 11:- Water and Sanitation Mission Committee that met here today under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Jammu, A.K. Sahu discussed the issues related to supply of safe and adequate drinking water to the people particularly those living in rural areas, The meeting was attended by Superintendent Engineer Hydraulic, Rajeev Malhotra, Chief Planning Officer, Jammu, H.H. Dutt besides senior officers of PHE, Irrigation, Education and other concerned departments The meeting had a detailed discussions about rural drinking water and sanitation, common activities which include capacity building and training activities, formation of VWSC and their performance, school sanitation, water supply and hygiene, issues of women and child development, IEC activities, funding pattern under NRDWP, physical status of sustainability structures, coverage of schools, status of village water and sanitation committees etc. The meeting also deliberated upon various other issues which include physical and financial progress of NRDWP, Jalmani programmes, functionality of drinking water supply schemes (WSS), sustainability measures taken under NRDWP, MNREGS, IWMP, water quality, monitoring, surveillance and District Water and Sanitation Mission The DDC stressed upon the need to introduce modern sanitary practices in sanitation complexes and major thrust would be laid to cover cent percent schools with quality drinking water and sanitation under the mission besides construction of functional toilets in uncovered schools. The meeting told that laboratories have made functional at block level to maintain water quality in urban and rural areas. Underlining the importance of Panchayats and Village Water and sanitation Committee, the DDC asked the officers to provide resources to PRIs so that all the schemes and programmes would be implemented at grass root level in a transparent manner. He also directed the concerned officers to submit progress report of different programmes pertaining to their respective sectors.
