DENNY, ERNEST T., JR. Ernest T. Denny Jr., 90, of West Haven, devoted husband of 64 years to the late Delores Gaunya Denny, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2014 from cancer, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in New Haven on February 10, 1924, son to the late Ernest and Elizabeth Sweeten Denny. Ernest joined the Army in 1943 and was assigned to the 503rd Military Police Battalion. His unit was one of the first to be deployed to the European Theatre in World War II, serving gallantly in five campaigns, including General Patton’s spectacular drive across Europe with the Third Army, receiving the first Meritorious Unit Commendation. Upon his return to the United States, he had a long and successful career working for Western Electric as an electronics technician and with ADT Security Systems as a Security Guard. A loving father, he is survived by six children, Wayne Denny (Helene) of Killingworth, Bruce Denny of Eugene, OR, Susan Smallman (William) of Niantic, Michael Denny (Meghan) of Leesburg, VA, Robert Denny (Faith Ann) of West Haven and Thomas Denny (Janet) of Emerald Isle, NC; fourteen grandchildren, Kyle, Laura Rose, Mark, Justin, Cara-lyn, Paul, Ryan, Shawn, Monica, Krystle, Robert, Madison, Sylvia and Simone; and two great-grandchildren, Haley and Adriana. Ernest was a lover of animals and always had his best friend at his side, even in death. An accomplished woodworker, gardener and stamp collector, he loved to stay busy with projects he always had going around the house. He was an avid fan of UCONN sports, especially UCONN Women’s Basketball. His funeral will be from Keenan Funeral home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven at 10:00 am on Monday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church, West Haven. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call from 3-6 pm on Sunday at the funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice Homecare, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
