DISCOVER BANDUNG: Newest Frontier in Indonesias Line Dance From: Nanny Warmana (BBC Line Dance Association, Bandung, Indonesia) My name is Nanny Warmana and I am the founder of the BBC (Buah Batu Corps) Line Dance Association in Bandung, Indonesia. We are the newest Line Dance Association here in Indonesia (only 3 years old) and are happy to report that our membership is growing very fast. We enjoy many different types of line dance, but our most favorite are the dances that we all can do. Me and my dancing friends love especially the style and choreography of Ira Weisburd. His choreography suits us best because they are simple enough to learn and interesting at the same time. We love these dances because they are hard to forget. Until now, Bandung had never hosted a Line Dance Workshop featuring a choreographer from abroad. Three weeks ago, we made this a reality. Together with the support of 60 instructors from the following Indonesian Line Dance Associations: BBC (Buah Batu Corps, Bandung), DDC (Dynamic Dance Compilation, Bandung), ULD (Universal Line Dancers, Jakarta) & ILD (Indieliners Jakarta), we drew a record crowd of more than 200 dancers. They came from Bandung, Bogor, Jakarta, Bekasi, Purwokerto and Cirebon. We flew Ira all the way from the USA as part of our 69th year Independence Day Celebrations. During the week, we arranged for Ira to stay at the famous, historic Hotel Homann Savoy. This is where the now famous Africa-Asia Summit took place in the 50s and where some of the most iconic world leaders of the day stayed. Among these dignitaries were Nehru, Soekarno, Ho Chi Minh, Zhou Enlai, Gamal Abdul Nasser and Tito. We arranged with our local TV station BANDUNG TV to be guests on the popular morning show HALO HALO BANDUNG ! Ira, myself and our 3 instructors (Deiu, Risma and Fifi) were featured in a 30 minute spot. Here is the television broadcast in its entirety. Its mostly in Indonesian, but if you fast forward about half way through (approximately 16 minutes into the program), you can hear what Ira said in English: https://youtube/watch?v=_oCjxQUuwH8 We also enjoyed several excursions with Ira which included taking him on a long hike to the rim of one of our active volcanoes, bathing in the hot suphur baths, the famous Angklung, visit to tea plantations and of course, shopping. At the Saturday workshop, we brought G-pro, a professional Line Dance Band from Jakarta to play our favorite dances during open dancing: https://youtube/watch?v=RS3mT8RyvhM BANDUNG TV covered the workshop live and broadcast a 5 minute long segment on the local news the next day: https://youtube/watch?v=XKwYwLa_XX8&feature=youtu.be The following day, Sunday, August 17th, was Indonesias Independence Day and Ira led us in many of his dances on the outdoor stage on Buah Batu Street. This is also where we dance every Sunday morning. It is called Car Free Day and the street is blocked off from all cars so that people can walk and dance in the street: https://youtube/watch?v=E9zLOK5Ipkw It has been my dream for more than 3 years to bring Ira to Bandung. I want to thank Ira for introducing us to the rest of the world of line dancers. His visit here has put the city of Bandung on the map and we are so grateful for this. I welcome line dancers everywhere to come visit our beautiful city and dance with us. I hope that the following interview will help you discover Bandung and get to know us better: https://youtube/watch?v=qzNzKMeDUcQ
