▶ DUXBURY, Mass. -- Swimmers were ordered out of the water at a Massachusetts beach Monday after a great white shark was spotted Monday afternoon, state police said. The Massachusetts State Police said on its Facebook page that a member of the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries confirmed the shark spotted off Duxbury to be a great white shark, approximately 12-14 feet in length. State police said there were many beachgoers and people in the water at the time of the sighting. There were no injuries reported during the evacuation of the beach or from the shark. The Duxbury Fire Department reported that a state police helicopter spotted the shark in the area of the Powder Point Bridge, CBS Boston reported. The state police helicopter continued to monitor the shark as it headed south into deeper water. The beach was closed to swimmers for about two hours Monday afternoon. One beachgoer scrawled the words Youre gonna need a bigger boat, in the sand, paraphrasing a famous line from the movie Jaws.
