This Nigeria XI turned out to be a lot better than the bunch we beat comprehensively 5+ years ago. Truth be told, 2-1 is quite a generous reflection of the general balance of play. We spent most of the game chasing the ball and owe the 1 goal difference between the sides to a combination of excellent goalkeeping from kenan, some desperate last ditch defending from a busy DZ defense and a failure to convert gilt-edged chances (incl. 2 penalties) on the part of the Nigerians. Indeed, DZ might even have snatched a point towards the end, wasting a golden chance with just the keeper to beat and, just prior to that, hitting the crossbar (city).In his last appearance for DZ before departing for pastures new, phill put in a typically committed and commanding performance at centre-back.
