Dacque awoke with his usual jolt. The clock read four forty-six. It was still dark outside, and inside. He tapped the lamp on his nightstand, and then reached for his pen and pad. This time the long-awaited message was short and specific: Annabel Sweeney is ready. Her parents are waiting for her. Lead her to the Light. Dacque heaved a giant sigh. Finally another message. He speculated that all of those prayers that he hounded Annie to say, over and over and over again, had ultimately been answered. Her stranded soul was about to be reunited with the souls of her parents, over sixty years after her death. He said a short prayer: “Thank you, Lord, for another one of Your Miracles, and for allowing me to assist You in some small way to help make It happen. Amen.” Dacque turned the light off. He doubted that he could fall back to sleep, but it was way too early to get up.
