Dangelo & The Vanguard - Black Messiah This is the third LP and first album in 15 years for the Neo-Soul/Progressive R&B singer. Like his previous two efforts (Brown Sugar and Voodoo) this album has been critically and relatively commercially successful. This album does not stray too far from the sound he achieved on the last two albums and continues with his brand of soft, warm instrumentation which takes the edge off his bizarre vocal style. The songwriting is not as good on this album as it was on his last album but its understandable seeing as he has been basically retired for a decade and a half. Its a good album, nothing too great though, but still worth listening to. Sounds like: Prince sucked some helium and recorded some funked out groove covers of 90s Soul b-sides but recorded his vocal parts backwards 7/10
